Rats not only cause material damage by gnawing on cables, furniture and food, but also represent a significant health risk, as they can transmit diseases. Faced with this situation, many people turn to commercial chemicals that are often expensive and potentially dangerous for pets or children. However, there is a very simple homemade method that combines cement and flour, and it has proven to be surprisingly effective.
Why Cement and Flour Mixture Works
The principle behind this method is simple yet ingenious. The flour acts as bait, as its aroma is attractive to rodents, which are constantly looking for food sources with a high energy content. Cement, on the other hand, is an inert and powdery material that, when mixed with flour, is indistinguishable to the animal’s sense of smell.
When the rat consumes the mixture and then drinks water, the cement reacts within its digestive system, hardening and causing the death of the animal relatively quickly. This method does not require chemical poisons or toxic substances that can contaminate the domestic environment.
Materials Needed
- Powdered cement: about one cup. It should be dry and well sifted.
- Wheat flour: the same amount as cement, to achieve a homogeneous mixture.
- Sugar (optional): a tablespoon, to reinforce the attractiveness of the bait.
- Small containers: plastic lids, low plates or disposable trays where to place the mixture.
- A container of water: located near the bait, as it is essential for the method to work.
